On 11thJuly, the UPC training courses of teaching development for foreign language teachersbegins. Co-hosted by College of Artsand Teacher Education Development Center, the courses aim to help foreign language professors upgrade educational concept and improve teaching methods and finally develop their teaching ability by short-term training via combining theory and practice. Liu Huadong, the vicepresident was present at the opening ceremony.

The training courses are divided into three stages as follows. The main content of the first stage is a series of lectures from 11thto 14thJuly. Numerous off campus specialists, including professor Liang Yiping,leader of teams of National Taiwan Normal University, Professor Xia Jimei of Sun Yat-sen University, Professor Cai Jigang of Fudan University, Associate Professor Xu Hongchen of China Foreign Affairs University, and Jiang Linlin, the online product manager of Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, will train our professors in curriculum development in college English teaching, ESP teaching, micro lessons making, effective teaching theories and its application, etc. The second stage is for our English professors to deliberate about curriculum development of English for academic purpose on 18th and 19th July. The third stage will be held in December. Famous foreignexperts are to be invitedto train our professors on ESP instructional design and practiceandwriting ofEnglish for academic purpose, etc.

Liu Huadong indicated that China University of Petroleum has a consistent high concernto CET reforms. Our foreign language teaching quality, ranking so highly among all colleges and universitiesthroughout the country, has made outstanding achievements. The training courses are important for our professors to adapt to the reform of high education and improveteaching development of foreign languange professors. We hope foreign language professors can continuously learn and improve themselves to raise basic skills of instructionteaching techniques and scholarship of teaching, focusing on the central task of learning and development of students. At the same time, our professors must be master of enough professional knowledge, the skills to acquire new knowledge to meet students’ demand.
