History: Department of English for General Purposes traces its origins to the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Group in 1953, and the First Teaching and Research Office of the Department of Foreign Languages in 1989. During 2002 to 2020, it was named the First Department of College English. In October 2020, it was renamed Department of English for General Purposes of School of Foreign Studies.
Faculty: The department currently has a total of 31 faculty members, including 1 professor, 13 associate professors, and 17 lecturers, among whom, there are one Provincial Renowned Teacher, and four winners of the Shengli Yucai Award.
Philosophy: Prioritizing teaching, the department is committed to building a team with united and dedicated spirit. The Party branch of Department of English for General Purposes also devotes to its construction and promotes the harmonious development of the Party branch.
Teaching and Research: The department mainly undertakes the teaching task of the course General English for non-English freshmen as well as the related research.
