I. General Information

The Department of Russian Language and Literature was founded in 2004 and started to recruit undergraduates in 2003, which is an important secondary discipline under the first-level discipline of Foreign Languages and Literature. In 2011, it started to recruit MTI (Master of Translation and Interpreting), and in 2013 it started to recruit Academic Master's Degree of Russian Language and Literature. Currently, the department enrolls 221 undergraduates and 32 master's students. The training of talents in Russian language is mainly based on undergraduate education, and at the same time, it also cultivates master's degree in Russian Translation and Master's degree in Russian Language and Literature.

II. Faculty

There are 22 teachers in the Department of Russian.

Among the 12 Russian language faculty members, nine hold doctoral degrees. The team consists mainly of young and mid-career educators, including one professor and two associate professors. The main research directions include four directions: Russian linguistics, Russian literature, Russian culture and Russian translation. At present, the teachers specializing in Russian are forming an academic research team around the cultural and national conditions of the Russian-speaking countries along the “Belt and Road”, and the current research direction focuses on the energy public opinion and cultural research of the five Central Asian countries.

There are 10 non-Russian language teachers, including 4 teachers with overseas master's degrees. They are mainly engaged in teaching French, German, Korean, Arabic, Spanish and other languages as second foreign languages, public foreign languages, intensive classes of small languages, and cultural profiles of various countries.

III. Teaching and Scientific Research

1. The undergraduate teaching of the Russian language program is aimed at consolidating students' basic knowledge and improving their humanistic qualities, and includes courses on basic Russian, grammar, listening, reading, translation, writing and other basic language skills, as well as courses on Russian culture, Russian literature and other subjects aimed at improving students' humanistic qualities and helping them to understand Russia in a comprehensive way, and specialized courses such as Russian for business and trade and Russian for petroleum. After four years of undergraduate study, students are basically able to master the Russian language and are competent in a variety of oral and written communication and translation work.

Russian language students actively participated in national and regional Russian language competitions and achieved good results. Among them, five students were selected for overseas exchange programs funded by the Ministry of Education, and 8 of them got the awards of Global Russian Translation Competition. At the same time, the Russian language program attaches importance to foreign cooperation and takes the road of internationalization. in 2005, it established a long-term cooperative relationship with the Belgorod University of Russia to send foreign students to each other, and formed a relatively perfect 3+1, 2+2 and 1+1 mode of schooling. Through the study and exercise abroad, students have made great progress in study and life, and their employment advantages are very obvious. The features and advantages of the Russian language program in the cultivation of compound talents have greatly improved the employment competitiveness of students. Since its first graduating class in 2007, the Russian language program has maintained a strong employment record. At the same time, the annual examination rate is also gradually increasing, and a number of students have been admitted to Peking University, Beijing Normal University, China University of Political Science and Law, Shanghai International Studies University, Zhejiang University, Lanzhou University and other famous universities for further study.

2. Teachers of the Department of Russian Language are devoted and dedicated to their work, and have undertaken heavy teaching tasks. At the same time, all the teachers are actively engaged in scientific research activities while completing their teaching tasks, and they have undertaken a number of scientific research projects, including 3 National Social Science Foundation projects, 2 Humanities and Social Science Foundation projects of the Ministry of Education, 4 Social Science Planning Projects of Shandong Province, 2 Postgraduate Teaching and Learning Reform Projects of Shandong Province, 1 Overseas Joint Cultivation Base for Postgraduates of Shandong Province, 1 Teaching and Learning Reform Project of the State Education Commission, and more than 30 departmental and bureau-level projects. He has published more than 20 CSSCI papers and more than 10 monographs, translations and textbooks.

IV. Party Construction

Every year, the Party Branch of the Department of Russian Language conducts organizational life meetings with Russian majors, guides the activities of clubs, carries out exchanges with the Party Branch of the Foreign Affairs Department, visits the China-Russia Economic Cooperation Park, and organizes the theme party day activity of “Serving the SCO Summit and building the core cohesion of the branch”. They also actively participated in the red educational activities organized by the university and the college, such as watching movies of “My Motherland and I”, visiting Lei Feng Memorial Hall and going to Zunyi.

Since 2014, the annual “International Cultural Spectacle” series of lectures has become a brand activity highlighting the cultural characteristics. The lectures are centered on the national initiative of “Belt and Road”, and introduce foreign education, culture, law and customs to all teachers and students of the university. So far, it has been held for 6 times, with 40 lectures and an audience of 3,000 people.

The Party Branch of Russian Language Department was selected as the “Typical Case Bank of the Work of the Secretary of Grassroots Party Organizations of the Ministry of Education” in 2018, and the theme party day activities of teachers' party branches in the province's colleges and universities focusing on support and cultivation.2017 Excellent grassroots party organizations at the institution level, and excellent grassroots party organizations at the school level in 2019.2024 The Party Branch of the Department of Russian Language was selected as the “National Sample Branch of Party Building Work “Cultivation and Creation Unit.

V. Characteristics of the Program

As far as the schooling characteristics of Russian language majors in China are concerned, the Russian language major of our university has been running the schooling model of “Russian + English + Petroleum” since the beginning of the schooling in 2003, and has been constantly upgraded and modified under the new situation, in an effort to create a complex human resource with the qualification of “Russian + English + Energy (or a third foreign language)”. We strive to create “Russian + English + Energy (or third foreign language)” composite talents. The characteristics of our Russian language program were fully affirmed by Liu Limin, the former vice minister of education, who pointed out: “In recent years, the best employment situation has been for the graduates of the Russian language program of the University of Petroleum. This situation is a good insight into how our future training of Russian-language talents can develop towards the goal of knowing Russian and specializing in it.” (Teaching Russian in China, Issue 3, 2015) Our university is the first one among petroleum colleges and universities to offer Russian undergraduate majors and master's degree programs in Russian translation, and our “Russian + English + Energy” mode of operation provides a reference for science and engineering colleges and universities in China, including energy colleges and universities.

The construction of the characteristic talent cultivation mode for Russian language majors in our university mainly relies on the following links:

1. Provision of specialized core courses. Specialized core courses such as “Reading and Translation of Petroleum Science and Technology in Russian” and “Translation and Translation of Petroleum Topics in Russian” are offered to take into account the students’ knowledge of Russian language and petroleum. To provide professional elective courses such as Introduction to Petroleum Geology and Introduction to Oil and Gas Storage and Transportation to expand students' knowledge.

2. Preparation of teaching materials in Russian for petroleum. The series of textbooks prepared by the department include Reading Russian for the Petroleum Industry (2008), Reading and Translating Russian for the Petroleum Industry (2015), and Overview of Russia (2018).

VI. Cultivation of human resources

The second classroom of Russian language majors gives full play to students' initiative in learning. The school library, reading room and online resources provide convenient conditions for students' independent learning, which not only stimulate students' learning motivation, but also cultivate their language independent learning ability.

In close cooperation with the Youth League Committee, the Russian Language Program has set up the Russian Language Enthusiasts Association, which organizes a series of activities such as the Russian Culture and Art Festival, the Russian Style Contest, the Russian Translation Contest, the Russian Poetry Recitation Contest, etc. At the same time, some of the students participate in the English Drama Contest and other activities, which provide a stage for students to display the cultural knowledge they have learnt in the classroom. The Russian language program offers 4-8 lectures on the cutting-edge knowledge of the discipline every year, and at the same time hires famous domestic experts in the field of Russian to give lectures to the students, which expands their horizons and strengthens their sense of scientific research.

The Russian language program has established regular and extensive contacts with relevant government departments and petroleum enterprises, and now has several teaching internship bases, organizing students to participate in some of the foreign activities of government departments and petroleum enterprises, which improves students' language application ability.

VII. Social Services

In 2018 more than 80 teachers and students of the Russian Department participated in the organization, translation and volunteer activities of the SCO Summit, and more than 50 teachers and students participated in the translation and volunteer activities of the SCO Summit Film Festival, which was highly recognized by Shandong Province and Qingdao Municipality, which sent a letter of thanks for this. In 2020, the teachers of Russian were commissioned by the Municipal Government of Khujand in Tajikistan to translate and publish the “Handbook of Protection against the Novel Coronaviruses”, which made a great contribution to the It is a great contribution to the construction of “One Belt, One Road”. In addition, they also participated in the translation of “The Third Overseas Academician Qingdao Tour and Qingdao International Academician Forum” and “Qingdao Forum on Local Economic and Trade Cooperation of Shanghai Cooperation Organization”. Teachers and students have expanded the social influence of the school and their disciplines and specialties while serving the society.

 

Departmental leadership division of labor and responsibilities:

Chairman of department: Zhao Tingting, presides over the overall administrative work of the department. She is in charge of the undergraduate teaching work of Russian language, the construction of Russian language specialty, and the internship practice work.

Secretary of the Party Branch of the Department and Deputy Director: Lin Chao, presides over the overall work of the departmental branch. She is in charge of party building and ideological and political work, propaganda work, small language teaching operation and curriculum construction work, postgraduate teaching related work, responsible for innovation and entrepreneurship of college students, academic competitions, second classroom activities, and assisting in carrying out the work of the Russian Language Department.

Deputy Director: Yan Meiping, in charge of scientific research and foreign affairs, responsible for undergraduate graduation internship and the organization and training of the National Russian Language Competition. She assists in carrying out the work of the Department of Russian Language.
