Prof. Mao’s Keynote Speech
High-end Forum on Education Reform and Development of College Foreign Language, the second plenary meeting of the University Foreign Language Teaching Steering Committee of Undergraduate Education of Shandong province, was held in Weifang on December 26, 2020, where over 150 representatives from different universities attended. The conference was hosted by the University Foreign Language Teaching Steering Committee of Undergraduate Education of Shandong Province and organized by the School of Foreign Languages of Weifang University. Prof. Mao Haoran, Dean of the School of Foreign Studies of UPC, was invited to give a keynote speech. Prof. Guo Yueqin, member of the University Foreign Language Teaching Steering Committee of Shandong province, and the associate professor Zhao Chunxia, deputy director of the Department of Academic English, attended the meeting.

The conference implemented the spirit of the “University English Teaching Guide” (2020 edition), promoted the construction of new liberal arts in the era of smart education, and discussed hot topics such as curriculum’s ideological and political education, organic integration of scientific evaluation system and college English education and multi-mode first-class courses in the context of deepening the reform of college English teaching.
At the conference, prof. Mao gave a keynote speech entitled “The Dynamic Conversion and Empowering Innovation of the Construction of New Liberal Arts in College English”. The speech was carried out in five aspects. He then elaborated his ideas on college English teaching reform combining with the reform practice of our school. Prof. Mao targeted the problem in College English Teaching and provided the breakthrough plan with strong foresight, which triggered strong responses.

Prof. Mao’s keynote speech deepened the mutual understanding between our college and other universities in the province, promoted inter-university contact, and provided useful references for the reform of foreign language education and teaching in Shandong Province. The success of the conference had important guiding significance for innovation and development of universities’ foreign language teaching of Shandong province in the future.
