Dr. Cheng Lulu, associate professor of Jiamusi University was invited by organizer of Serial Lectures for Foreign Language Learners to give her lecture titled “Research on Perlocutionary Act of Preschool Children’s Pragmatic Development” in the Conference Room 346 of the Arts and Science Building at 2:30 p.m. on December 11th. Professor Mao Haoran, dean of Foreign Language Studies hosted the lecture. The School party committee secretary Zhang Yongning, deputy dean Wang Xinbo, professor Sun Daman, associate professor Han Shuqin, professor Xu Wanzhi, director of the professor committee, some members of the professor committee, teachers and graduate students attended the lecture.
Dr. Cheng pointed out that nowadays China’s research on how Chinese children acquire communicative competence and their pragmatic development rules is still insufficient. The stage of children’s pragmatic development actually represents the perlocutionary act stage. In her study, 216 normally developing children are selected as research participants to analyze the conversational and narrative abilities of children in different age groups and different situations. From the perspective of perlocutionary act, the full picture of children’s pragmatic competence development is also verified in order to get new understanding of the concept of perlocutionary act. On the basis of the difference between perlocutionary act and perlocutionary effect, Dr. Cheng proposed that perlocutionary act should be interpreted within the framework of the meaning of children’s discourse, and the relationship between the speaker (child) and the recipient should be emphasized. At the same time, the connotation of children’s pragmatic development ability from the perspective of perlocutionary act is re-interpreted, providing an objective basis for systematically revealing the characteristics of children’s pragmatic development, and also offering reference to the rehabilitation of children with pragmatic disorders in China. At the end of the lecture, professors exchanged their views with Dr. Cheng on academic problems they are interested in.

Brief introduction of Dr. Cheng Lulu: Ph.D and Post-Doctor in English Language and Literature, the associate professor of Jiamusi University, the master tutor, the member of Language Service China 40 ( LSC40 ), and the deputy director of Teaching and Research section. She presided one National Social Science Fund of China and Excellent Doctoral Publishing project, one youth project of Ministry of Education of Humanities and Social Science, one general funded project of China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, one youth project of provincial Philosophy and Social Science Planning and one provincial post-doctoral funding project. She presided over a total of 33 teaching and research projects at the national, provincial and ministerial levels, departmental and school levels. She edited a textbook and published more than 10 papers in the CSSCI journal and China Social Science Journal, one of which was reprinted in the full text of “ Pedagogy”, a copy of the National People’s University and another of which was included in a famous monograph. She won the second prize of the Provincial Teaching Achievement Award, the first prize of the first provincial young teacher courseware competition, the third prize of the provincial selection competition -- “Teaching Star” contest of the Foreign Research Institute, the school-level excellent doctoral thesis, and the first prize of the conference paper of the International Educational Technology Conference Rewards.
