To further standardize the framework of the masters’ thesis, ensure the rigor and scientific nature of the dissertation and improve the quality of the dissertation, the School of Foreign Studies hold the opening defense meeting of masters’ degree thesis of 2019 in Nantang on December 11th, 2020. This thesis opening defense has eight groups and postgraduates of 2020 in related majors attended and observed.
The head of each team explained the purpose, basic process and requirements of this defense. Firstly, the respondent should introduce the degree thesis from the aspects of research background, research objectives, key questions, thesis framework and innovation points, briefly explain the plan of next stage, and put forward the difficulties and problems encountered in the current graduation design. Secondly, the review experts provide guidance on the specific problems in their thesis proposal, and pointed out the problems in the format, structure, and experimental feasibility, such as unspecific topic selection, unreasonable thesis design, research methods to be improved, and ill-formed language expression, etc. The opinions of the experts provide a clear direction for the research and writing of students’ thesis, which is beneficial to the students to complete the thesis writing with quality and quantity on time. Finally, the head of each team made a summary of the defense.
The thesis opening defense makes postgraduates of 2019 have a clearer understanding of the research direction and topic of their degree theses. It will help to correct the problems existing in the thesis writing and encourage students to treat academic research and academic creation with a more rigorous and scientific attitude. The students have a deep and academic understanding of degree thesis, which has laid a good foundation for its writing.
