On September 25, the recruitment of interpreters for Shanghai Cooperation Expo was held by the School of Foreign Studies in the Room 442 of Art and Science Building. The meeting was chaired by Chun Liu, director of Graduate Education Office. Li Huizi, the deputy director, Jiao Zongyan, the manager of the translation department of the Global Tone Communication Technology Co., Ltd.(Qingdao) delivered speeches respectively. All the masters of translation and interpretation and some academic postgraduates of grade 2019 attended the recruitment.

This recruitment was divided into three parts. At the beginning, Director Li Huizi gave a brief introduction on the basic information of their company, focusing on the outstanding contribution for the holding of the SOC Qingdao Summit in 2018. During the summit, their company built the 12345 multilingual remote call service center, which is worthy of the name of “Shanghai Cooperation Organization Hotline”. Then Manager Jiao Zongyan introduced the relevant situation of the Shanghai Expo project to the students. During the three-day session, relevant government agencies of 18 SCO member countries, foreign embassies and consulates in China, economic and trade groups, experts and scholars, and representatives of enterprises attended the meeting. At that time, a large number of interpreters would be needed to serve the meeting. The last step was the interview and selection of interpreters. The main contents of the interview are self-introduction, impromptu interpretation tests and random questions in the corresponding languages. Manager Jiao mentioned that a good interpreter should not only master the professional skills, but also the translator's self-confidence, adaptability and personal grooming are all important indicators of assessment. During the interview, students performed calmly and expressed actively, gaining a better understanding of the basic qualities in the conference interpretation.

The lecture aroused great repercussions among the students. The students not only got a better understanding of the Qingdao Forum on Local Economic and Trade Cooperation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the International Investment and Trade Expo, but also learned more about the basic qualities of accompanying interpreters and voluntary service as well as their own shortcomings, which played a positive role in broadening students' horizons and knowledge and improving their professional abilities.
