He speaks highly of the talents training results of the school and delivers a speech titled “The leek flowers like rice tiny, rush to bloom like the peony”. Combined with his own experience of the leek flower case”, he put forward five expectations to all freshman to help them start a wonderful university life.

First, remain true to our original aspiration, “delete” and forge ahead. As students in university, weshould clear our goals and adhere to our original aspiration. We should be able to endure the hardships of going uphills and do our best to create the life we want. Meanwhile, we also need to learn how to do subtraction, how to delete and go forward without any burdens.

Second, learn to choose and communicate. Choice is more important than effort. To learn how to choose, college students should not only learn to choose the best and order, but also choose to turn around, give up and make subtraction when necessary. To learn to communicate, college students should first learn to ask questions, and secondly the communication should be concise and comprehensive, and the core information should be refined. College students should also learn to speak to make people comfortable, to do things to move people, to be a person to be missed.

Third, have a global vision and love for the country. Having global vision requires us to be proactive, and to stay away from the unconsciousness and delay. In order to achieve foresight, first of all, we should read regularly and pay attention to the international cutting-edge trends, strengthening our awareness of potential dangers. The love for the country is the most prominent in the situation of national crisis and when one is in foreign countries. The people who dare to take responsibility and go ahead during the outbreak of COVID-19 are the most vivid interpretation of love for the country.

Fourth, “swim in the water”. Don't learn to swim on the shore, and also don't dabble in shallow water. Only when you are far away from the comfort zone can you be reborn. “Learning without thought means labour lost; thinking without learning is perilous.” College students should adhere to the market orientation and meet the expectations of enterprises.

Fifth, soul interrogation and nourishment between each other is very important. Dean Mao hopes that everyone can have cultivation rooted in the heart, self-consciousness without reminding, freedom on the premise of restraint and kindness for others, nourishing the people around you and being respectable UPC students.
