On September 10th, 2020, the 36thTeachers’ Day of China, the first faculty meeting of the School of Foreign Studies was held since its establishment. Zhang Yongning, Secretary of the School Committee of the CPC, chaired the meeting. And the faculty of SFS attended the meeting.
Zhang Yongning first gave wishes to faculty a happy Teachers’ Day, then he requested staff members to follow the Four Standards of a good teacher put forward by President Xi, and never forget why you start and cultivate talents for the Party and the nation. At the meeting, Zhang Yongning introduced the personal changes of SFS, focusing on the introduction to Professor Mao Haoran, the new Dean of SFS. Zhang Yongning highly summarized the development and achievements of the School of Foreign Studies since its establishment with “Two Events”, “Two Tasks”, “Two Achievements”, and expressed is heartfelt thanks to the faculty for their efforts in the epidemic period.Zhang pointed out that, with expectations and requirements, the establishment of SFS is a new opportunity for school and disciplinary development as well as a new challenge. Our team and faculty have the confidence and determination to rebuild the glory of public English with outstanding achievements, realize the leap-forward development of foreign languages and provide powerful backing support for UPC’s development.
Dean Mao Haoran elaborated thoughts, policies as well as corresponding measures for the development of school in his lecture. Meanwhile, the annotation construction should be paid close attention to and the denotationexpansion shall be taken into consideration. For the future development and management of our school, the thought “We should hold the idea of innovation, have the ability to respond to the changes, seek update for the obsolescence, and keep our original aspiration unchanged” should be strengthened, and the atmosphere where people take the initiative to work, have the ability to engage in it , and get good results from it, with good personality should be created. “Do something but not everything, and make some achievements.” He proposed to build an academic community with shared interests, move all blocks in scientific research and loose burden for teaching, letting teachers focus on teaching and scientific research. He also stressed the trinity of responsibility, rights and benefits, and no success means mistakes. He also pointed out that “Everything is ready, and all we need is you but not east wind”. The idea “I might not be the one decides the success, but certainly the one leading to it.” should be kept in mind by each teacher. Remain true to our original aspiration, and forge ahead . Keep pace with the times, do great things together.
Members of party and politics leadership groups of our school respectively introduced their responsibilities and gave speeches. Professor Xu Wanzhi, director of Professors Committee of SFS, announced the Proposal to Strengthen the Construction of Teachers' Morality and Academic Ethics.
Through this meeting, every staff member in our school has a good knowledge about “new school, new mission and new journey”. Developing orientation, targets and ideas are specified, and the confidence in development is strengthened.
