The sudden outbreak of COVID-19 at the beginning of 2020 has caused panic around the world and has a serious impact on our economic and social life. Zhang mentioned that two teams of teachers from School of Foreign Studies of our university actively responded to the urgent need and voluntarily translated the COVID-19 Prevention Manual for no payment, which shall provide people around the world with China’s experience in fighting the pandemic.

The Russian department of our school has been committed to cultural studies in Russia and Central Asian countries, under the guidance of the Belt and Road Initiative. During the pandemic, entrusted by Khuzhand City of Tajikistan, faculty in Russian department voluntarily translated the Russian Version of NCP Prevention Manual, which has been published in Tajikistan. While helping the local fight against the pandemic, the manual greatly promoted the friendly exchange between China and Tajikistan. In the micro party lecture, Professor Sun Daman recalled how the translate team strained themselves and overcame various difficulties.

Zhu Shan, an associate professor of English major, has been focusing on conduct medical translation study. At the beginning of the pandemic, she volunteered to lead a team to translate the English Version of COVID-19 Prevention Manual, which introduced China’s experience and got published successively in more than 20 countries and regions including the United States, Canada, and France. This story has been reported by more than 100 institutions and media at home and abroad.

The micro Party lecture drew much attention from universities across the country, and the viewers during the live broadcast exceeded 2.886 million. Teachers and students in our university are much impressed by the lecture. Chen Yong, Party Secretary of the Geological Department of the College of Geosciences and Technology reflected, “This lecture made me realize that the grass-roots Party organization is a strong fighting fortress, and each Party member is a bright red flag, standing at the forefront in the pandemic. As a CPC member, we should always keep our original aspiration and our mission firmly in mind, and be ready for any critical moments when we are in bad need. Whatever profession we take and wherever we are, so long as there is faith in heart, we can give full play to our expertise, and contribute to our national prosperity and rejuvenation.”

Jia Han, Deputy Party Secretary of Institute of Oil and Gas Field Chemistry, commented that stories shared in this lecture showed passionate patriotism of UPCers – we always rise to our nation’s need, without hesitation and sparing no effort. He believed that we faculty should inherit the UPC spirit of “keeping the needs of Motherland in mind, working arduously, pursuing the truth and striving for excellence”, apply our original aspiration into action and fulfill our duty in working positions, thus making contributions to the high-quality development of UPC.

Student Party members learned a lot from this lecture. “I feel highly proud as a UPCer when I saw that our university fight against the coronavirus through translation, we should follow the example of those extraordinary teachers and put what we’ve learned to where they are needed, be a UPCer who has the courage to take on responsibility and devote to work!” said Wang Yuxin, a postgraduate majoring in International Chinese Language Education. Li Xiaotong, an undergraduate majoring in Russian, said, “This lecture makes me realize the importance of the expertise I am learning. Although we cannot rush to the frontline of the epidemic like medical staff, we can still make contributions to the world with language. As a younger generation of our country, we need to constantly improve our ability with increasing political consciousness, integrating the realization of our own values with the future of the motherland.”

In order to implement the CPC Central Committee’s decision and deployment on normalized epidemic prevention and control, give full play to the role of the basic-level party organization in colleges and universities as a battle fortress and the vanguard role of teachers and students, the Ministry of Education has carried out the “Four Ones” campaign in colleges and universities, to ensure that the party flag will always fly high in epidemic prevention and control, classes resumption, and career development. Through one featured micro-party lecture, one special organizational life meeting, one bank of instructive stories, and one “red firewall”, colleges and universities across the country can expect to comprehensively strengthen basic-level party construction. Our school attaches great importance to this work, with the participation of the School of Foreign Studies and the Education Development Center, our school has completed the recording of the featured micro-party class in the shortest time with high quality.

The faculty of our school, in the spirit of UPC, bravely fought the VOVID-19 through “translation”. UPCers will continue to uphold the UPC spirit of “working hard, being true and realistic, striving for excellence and keeping motherland in mind” and stay true to our original aspiration and mission. Only in this way can we make due contributions to implementing the Belt and Road initiative and building a community with a shared future for mankind.
