The “Digital Language Lab Upgrading and Renovation”, a teaching infrastructure project approved by the Ministry of Education for 2020, started in mid-July. This project will transform the old language LABS 208, 308 and 521 in the South Hall of our school into an intelligent and multifunctional one. The newly built language laboratory, with a total of 220 seats, adopts VOI cloud desktop and PC voice LAN.

After the project started, Zhang Yongning, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School, and Wang Xinbo, Deputy Head of the School, conducted an on-site investigation. Deputy Dean Wang Xinbo pointed out that the Intelligent Language Lab is of great significance to the development of novel interactive and hybrid teaching. It can better create the immersed and fused foreign language practice and training environment, and promote the development of the laboratory’s accessibility inside the university, foreign language virtual simulation training, and various foreign language training activities with characteristics of the second classroom. Zhang Yongning fully acknowledged the achievements of the Liberal Arts Experiment and Service Center, and proposed to strengthen cultural construction of the laboratory under the background of “new liberal arts” to demonstrate the important role of experimental and practical teaching in the discipline construction of the school. Furthermore, he stressed that it is necessary to refine characteristics, pay attention to innovation, and break new grounds in intelligent foreign language teaching.

The launch of the digital language laboratory upgrading project marks a new step in the construction of information-based intelligent teaching in the school. The Liberal Arts Experiment and Service Center will take this opportunity to further refine its features, reform and innovate, in response to the era’s demand of wisdom teaching under the background of big data and “Internet +”, with an aim to become a university-level research center for experimental practice of foreign languages teaching.
