On the morning of August 23rd, Ren Wei, full-timeVicePresident and SecretaryGeneralof Shandong Law Society(hereinaftercalled“the Society”), and Xiao Jinming,Vice President ofthe Society andhead ofLaw School ofShandong University (Weihai), accompanied by other Society members, came to UPC(China University of Petroleum, hereinafter calledUPC) to launch a specialresearchon the discipline development oflaw and thecultivation ofqualitylawtalents.They were received by Zhang Lingling, Vice President of UPC, Wang Xuedong, Dean of College of Arts, Zou Weizhong, Deputy Secretary of College of Arts, and some law professors in UPC.
Zhang LinglingextendedwelcometoRen Wei and his colleagues and gave a brief introductionof the development history, discipline features and other information aboutUPC. Ren Wei acknowledged UPC’s achievements in itstalent cultivation and discipline construction; he alsopromised to givepolicy supportto UPCinterms of discipline constructionand research projects approval, hoping that Law schools in Shandong could further enhance exchanges and cooperation andcarry out studies on the rule oflaw with Shandong characteristicstogether with the Society.
Then, Wang Xuedong, Dean of College of Arts, reported thedevelopmenthistory, discipline construction, teaching staff, discipline features, scientific researches, teaching resources, social services, etc.about the LawDepartment at UPC.Besides, he hoped that the Society could give more instructions to the grassroots units, build bridges among Shandong Law schools and give continued support in Science Research Project, Awarding,publication and popularization, etc., in order toimprove the discipline and increase the influence of Qingdao as the key base of Law education.
Ren Wei presented the Society reform measures and pointed outthat future work should act in accordance with the instruction given by Lin Fenghai,member of the Standing Committee and Deputy Political and Legal Secretary of CPC Committee of Shandong Province, to combine law study with publicservice and comprehensiveregulation andgive the Societya full playinpolitical guiding, law studies, and legal services.
Recently, the ShandongLawSocietywillstrengthen the construction ofShandongthink tank of politicalscienceandlaw, optimize the organizational form of lawstudy platform, integrate the researchteam,andorganizethemedforums on a regular basis,so as topromote the cooperation and exchangeson lawstudies inside and outside the province, and make Shandong’sUnionsof Law Studybigger and stronger. In addition, he suggested thatwemake determined efforts topromote the discipline, strengthen exchanges betweenpeer colleges,so as tomake new breakthroughs in the construction of the discipline of law. In the end,RenWei put forward his expectation for the construction of law major in our university: firstly, we should strengthen the ideological and political constructionabout law courses so as to arouse students’patriotism and improve their virtues and political integrity.Secondly,we should strengthen law researches in fields with Shandong’s characteristics.Weshould also attach great importance to the researches onlaw of environment and resources, energy, andon the integration between army and people,based on the actual situation ofShandongProvince, Qingdao city and our university, so as to contribute tothe national and local development strategies.
Through the successfulseminar, theShandongProvinceLawSociety knew more about the law major in our university; it helped both sides of the discussion envisage the future development of the law major and pointed directions for promoting the construction of the law major and the discipline platform.
