Creating the Sun, the Symphony Concert to UPC 65th Anniversary

On the evening of October 2nd, Creating the Sun, the grand original symphony epic concert, is held in the gymnasium to celebrate the UPC 65th anniversary. More than 3,200 guests, alumnus, faculties and students watched the performance. The concert is offered by Shenghua Symphony Orchestra and Youth Choir of China University of Petroleum.

Creating the Sunwas composed under the background of history of China University of Petroleum, named after university’s landmark building “Creating the Sun”. It has been determined as a classic performance of our university. This classic work is composed by Xu Yi, the national second level composer, Zheng Shengkun, the national first level scriptwriter, Xu Xuemin, the national first level conductor and Wu Wenshan, the Party secretary of China University of Petroleum Press. Through symphony orchestra, chorus, the concert, poetry reading and multimedia video, the concert tells about the history and achievements of our university. It shows the spirit of “Be realistic, pragmatic, innovative and powerful”, the dedication to the country and the pursuit for excellence to encourage the people in the university to make greater contributions to the country.

Except for the prelude and ending, this concert, including eight movements, recalls the past time in the Alma Mater from the perspective of an alumnus.With the magnificent music and singing, the whole performance is officially opened in  Brilliant Century. Love for Nine Rooms presents a picture where the New Chinas first petroleum instituteBeijing Institute of Petroleum, was founded in a small village known as nine rooms 65 years ago. The melodious music of Along the Huicui Lake and beautiful photos of the lake evoke alumnis precious memories in Dongying. Embracing Azure leads guests’ emotions to the universitys present time in Qingdao. From Beijing to Dongying and then to Qingdao, China University of Petroleum has been a national key college of technology characterized by oil and petrochemical as well as coordinated development of multiple disciplines from one of the most famous eight universities in Beijing at that time. But it still continues to pursue the spirit of excellence for building a splendid future. When hearing Lamps in the Campus, alumni can recollect their 4-year experiences in this university, such as military training, symphonic concerts and what they learned from teachers in the Southern Teaching Building. Oh, Teachers reminds numerous teachers of the scene while they are standing on the platform. Looking up at the Drilling Tower shows the spirit of alumnis endeavor for oil industry of motherland. Past with the Future tells their gratitude and best wishes to the Alma Mater.

“There are two features of this symphony concert. First, Creating the Sun is an epic symphony performance which shows the history through music for the first time. The lyric is composed originally by the school personnel, which not only pays tribute to the 65th anniversary of the founding of our university, but also contributes a lot to the construction of campus culture.The other one lies in the larger scale of the performers where the number has been up to 200, including 100 members of chorus, 80 members of band, 2 leading singers and 5 responsible for poetry recitation. Some faculty and students, who are not specializing in music, also participate in this performance.” Xu Xuemin, the music director and the conductor, said after the performance.

To celebrate the 65th anniversary of the founding of UPC, this grand symphony epic concert has brought the most spectacular scene and retrospect of the past 65 years. It also manifests the achievements, especially in the fields of education in the recent years, fully signifying the motto Being sincere and true”. Meanwhile, it embodies the unremitting efforts and dedication for the construction of a domestic high-level university as well as international first-class one, and for the great rejuvenation of our nation. The main body of the performers is the faculty and students of UPC, which engages more people with artistic talent and digs out more art resources of our university. Thanks to them, the 65th anniversary evening party which is featured by artistic, realistic and resonate has come into our eyes, leaving a classic work for our university.
