Forum on National Energy Discourse Research 2018 was held on July 16th and 17th in UPC, College of Arts as a coorganizor. The Forum aims at constructing and interpreting energy-related issues from a perspective of discourse, with an attempt to serve the national strategy for energy development,
The opening ceremony was chaired by Dean Wang Xuedong; the keynote speech was given by Cao Yingchang, deputy president of UPC. Pro. Cao hopes the forum could serve as a thruster to cooperation and exchange between energy universities, as a catalyst to advance the energy discourse system so as to support the teaching and scientific research in universities. Xin Bin, chairman of China Association for Discourse Studies, and Cai Jigang, vice-president of Chinese Association of ESP Professor Sun Jisheng from the Vice-President of the School of Foreign Affairs and other ten more experts and professors also delivered speeches in the ceremony.
The two-day event arranges three parallel sessions, chaired respectively by Professor Sun Chengrong, Professor Han Shuqin and Professor Guo Yueqin. Young scholars from more than 20 colleges and universities presented their opinions centering on three topics involving (energy) discourse analysis and communication studies, cross-cultural approach to (energy) discourse research, and research on (energy) discourse teaching. Experts gave their comments and advice.
Professor Wang Xinbo chaired a round table discussion on foreign language teaching. Professors and teachers from energy universities conducted in-depth exchanges and shared teaching experiences of college English and English majors. They agreed that foreign language teaching, being crucial to talent internationalization, should participate in the construction of first-class disciplines.
This Forum was jointly organized by Discourse Research Professional Committee affiliated to China Association for Comparative Studies of English and Chinese (CACSEC) and Energy Division of Chinese Association of ESP, undertaken by College of Arts ,UPC(East China) and China International Energy Public Opinion Research Center,UPC (Beijing), Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press as a coordinator.
