From April 13th to 15th, the National Final of The 23rd China Daily “21st Century Coca-Cola Cup” National English Speaking Competition was held at Hangzhou Normal University. Deng Yuyan, the candidate from our English major Grade 2016, who was selected fromthe university selection and the Shandong provincial competition, has represented UPCto participate in the National Finals. Participants from 72 famous universities across the country have participated in the competition. After fierce competition, Deng Yuyan won the second prize, and the instructor, Xu Baohua, was awarded the title of “Excellent Tutor”. In the online competition, Deng won the Special 'We Care' Award from the organizing committee, for shecalled on to care for mothers who cannot get maternity insurance because of unemployment.
The 21st Century Cup National English Speech Contest was hosted by China Daily in 1996. As one of the highest academic standard disciplines and the most rigorous organization in our country, it has been highly valued and supported by the Education Department of China, the authoritative English teaching institutions at home and abroad and famous universities. Through this event, a large number of outstanding foreign language talents have been provided to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Council Information Office, the Ministry of Education, and CCTV, etc.
Through this competition, the outstanding qualities and comprehensive qualities of English majors of UPC have been fully demonstrated, and the influence of English majors in ouruniversity has been expanded throughout the country. The instructors and participating students have accumulated rich experience in the competition, building a better platform for the future. After the contest, the winning contestants and instructors communicated and shared experiences with various teachers and students, mobilized the enthusiasm of other studentsand promoted the construction of English practical teaching in our college.
