Zhang Yongning, Party committee secretary of our college and head of Shenghua Symphony Orchestra, led a team to Shanghai and Xiamen to visit Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Concert Hall, Shanghai Jiao Tong University Symphony Orchestra, Art Institute of Xiamen University and Xiamen University Symphony Orchestra from March 25 to 28, 2017. The delegation also included Musical Director Xu Xuemin, Executive Li Han and Su Jing, Dean of Music Department. The visit aims to explore business cooperation and strengthen management of our symphony orchestra in preparation for the layout of our concert hall which is to be built in two years.
After the tour to Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Concert Hall on March 25, they visited SJTU Symphony Orchestra on March 26, watched orchestra rehearsal there and met with Wu Yibo, the conductor. Both sides hope to develop friendly cooperation and share resources in the future.
On March 27, the delegation had a talk with faculty of Art Institute in Xiamen University headed by Dean Su Li. Professor Zhang and Su Li had a friendly exchange on the experience of orchestra construction. In the evening, they appreciated their rehearsal and sent each other concert CDs as gifts.
Shanghai symphony orchestra is one of the oldest orchestras in Asia With over 130 years of history. The musical hall boasts leading construction idea and scientific management model.
According to professor Zhang, it is vital to popularize classic music in universities by way of absorbing others' experiences.
