The College of Arts holds an uncommon lecture on 29thOctober, inviting experts from enterprises. JvChengtao, Senior Vice-president of Petrostar Global Business Services,and Master Ming Xiaofeng from Sinopecdeliver lectures, encouraging foreign language majors to go global.Wang Lixin (General Manager of Petrostar), ProfessorWang Shuting(Dean of the College), and most of the postgraduatesattend lectures.

In the lecture titledHow Would Foreign Language Majors Go Global,JvChengtaoshared with us his interesting stories when he workedin Kuwait, Canada and Ethiopia, expounding his view aboutcultural differences. He offered to usa different perspective to understand the internationalizationof foreign-languagemajors. When talking about basic qualitiesfor international talents, Mr. Jvsuggested that students should cultivate their cross-cultural awareness,andlearn toorientate their professional career in advance via self-analysis.

Then,in the lecture titled Career Planning forForeign Language Majors,Master Ming gave students some tips on English learning,and also emphasized the importance ofthe internationalizationtrend for foreign-language majors. He mentioned that many Chinese companies intend to go global, but they lack employees of global visions. He also suggested that, to become a versatile talent with international competitiveness,students should combine language learning with professional knowledge.

Finally, Dean Wang Shuting concluded that students should be ready to be a hard-worker in our future career. Aproperplanningfor future vocation is definitely necessary,so we need to knowmore about society tolay a solid foundation for future design.He hoped our students could follow the tide of internationalization, seeking all-around progress to attain a valuable life.

This lecture helped students understand the statusquo of English majors, the would-be actual working condition for us, as well as problems in present language learning. It also reminded us to set our future careerorientationahead of time.
