Lectures Given by British Petroleum Expert at College of Arts

Recently, a British petroleum expert, Tamerlane Shetayev was invited to give lectures at the College of Arts.

All the teachers and students in Russian department attended this remarkable lecture onoil industry, which mainly involved oil-gas industry structure and characteristics, oil-gas field survey, geological exploration and development, technology and management, the company’soperation management, oil-gas exploration license, and oil-gas production risk management, etc. In order to facilitate the understanding of the junior Russian majors, the organizer invited7 postgraduates majoringin Russian translation enrolled in 2015as translators during the whole lecture. It wasShetayev’s adequate preparation before the class that madeall of the studentsbenefit a lot.

This is the first timefor the College of Artsto invite foreign petroleum expertsto teach oil coursesforstudents ofRussian major, which virtually has achievedthe integration of knowledge associated with Russian,English and oil. Meanwhile, this integration has been the specialized characteristicsof theRussian major for many years, and it hasreceived public complimentsfrom Liu Limin, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education.

What’s more, Shetayev delivered a lecture called "petroleum enterprise culture"for the English Department faculties and students, which had been warmly welcomed.

During the lecture, Tamerlane Shetayev was arranged tohave a meeting with Professor Zhao Fulin again after a lapse of 29 years at China University of Petroleum with the help of the Russian department. The two experts excitedly talked about the work and life when they were together.

Shetayev is a petroleum development engineer with 35 years of working experience in oil companies, who served as a project development consultant and planning group leader in the BP of Britain (an oil company), as well as the deputy general manager and intermediate business consultant of Azerbaijan Shahjeneis oilfield. Besides, as PhD in oil-gas field development and exploitation, he has published 35 academic papers. In 1987, as a Soviet Union expert, he came to our school, and published 3 papers in"JOURNAL OF CHINA UNIVERSITY OF PETROLEUM (EDITION OF NATURAL SCIENCE)", coauthored with Professor Zhao Fulin, an expert at oil field chemistry.
