Postgraduate Enrollment Rate Reached New High

Currently, national postgraduate enrollment work in colleges and universities is coming to an end. Up to April 15th, for undergraduates of class 2012 in College of Arts, the result of postgraduate admission has all been published. The enrollment rates have reached a new top-level in recent years.

In 2012, totally 65 students in the College of Arts succeeded their pursuit for post-graduate examination, among which 23 students were postgraduate candidates exempt from admission exam, 42 students passed their examination. The proportion of students entering post-graduate schools reached 30.05 percent. Except for the Music Major, the enrollment rate of the other majors reached a new high of 35.52 percent, which included 22 English majors, an enrollment rate of up to 40 percent, 12 Chinese Language and Literature majors, a rate of 37.5 percent, 18 Law majors, 34.62 percent and 13 Russian majors, 29.55 percent. Besides the dramatically higher enrollment rate, the schools that students attended have proved strong strength. For example, Qiao Ruoyang, an English major, was admitted into Peking University, Hanmin into Renmin University of China; Zhang Shuo, a Russian major, into Beijing Foreign Studies University, Wang Yaruo into Tianjin Foreign Studies University; Ma Yunyun, a Law major, into China University of Political Science and Law, Gao Qi into University of International Business and Economics. Moreover, several more students were admitted into well-known universities at home, such as Shandong University, Xiamen University, Nanjing University and Jilin University and so on.

    Breakthrough of the postgraduate enrollment rates in 2012 attributes not only to the student’s own effort, but also to the college’s support. Having attached great importance to the establishment of academic atmosphere and class style, we carry out a phased and layered education system targeted different students of different grades, so as to create a good institutional atmosphere. After a series of thematic educational activities, the whole grade has established a good atmosphere among classes and the style of learning during the fine-study-style building month. English class 1203 was awarded the model class of fine-study-style and three classes were among the fine-study-style classes and advanced collectives. The one-time passing rate for TEM-4 was 96.5%, 46% higher than the national average.

    It is reported that among the Grade 2012, a certain portion of students has set the goal to accept further study of the Master Degree through various surveys such as profession inquiry, exploration of jobs. On the basis of their career development plan finished in the freshman year of university and their own attempts about personal development, they have made the review schedules in the second semester of the third year. Before the preparation of postgraduate entrance examination, counselors and class advisors organized the communication of experience, inviting seniors to share their experience and teachers to explain the key knowledge. During the preparation, students endeavored to review and had no enough time to relax. Therefore, 20 days before the examination, in the leadership of 2012 counselors Zhangjuan and Liufan, 2012 party branches of Zhaoyang and Zhuoyue sent students fruits and postcards to encourage them to try their best to study. During the retest, college leaders and professional teachers contacted with relevant schools through various ways for students to get swap information. Counselors communicated with every student preparing for postgraduate entrance examination to get their admission situation at the first time.

The meticulous daily management and education, as well as the solid student work are necessities for the new breakthrough in our admissions rates for higher education. By far, the signing rate of 2012 liberal arts graduates has reached 50.23%. College of Arts will continuously implement student-focused philosophy in our work, provide personalized employment guidance and support according to students’ needs, and make vigorous efforts to improve the overall employment situation of 2012 graduates and get good results.
