On Sept.9th, the opening ceremony for 2015 new students was held in the gymnasium. Over 6700 new BA,MA,PhD and overseas students attended the ceremony.
Liu Ke, Shan Honghong, Yang Maochun and other school leaders, the assistant principal Liu Yancong, representatives of outstanding scholars, including global experts of “The Thousand Talents Plan”, members of Millions of Talent Project and national model teachers, and deans, secretaries, directors of professor committee of all schools and heads of other relevant departments were present at the ceremony. The ceremony was chaired by Yang Maochun, Deputy Secretary of Party Committee and Secretary of Discipline Inspection Commission of UPC.
The representatives of students of different grades and teaching staff delivered speeches. They all expressed their hope that new students would start a new life journey in UPC and embrace a bright future after four years study here.
President Shan Honghong made a speech entitled “Better Life in University”. She congratulated all new students and mainly stressed four points: students should choose a good topic of their college life and know what they really want from this period; on behalf of generation of 90s, young men should give full play to their active energy; perseverance is an indispensable factor for success; students should enjoy happiness in study and life.
The ceremony ended up with a wonderful symphony concert by Sheng Hua symphony orchestra of UPC. Starting with “Song of Beijing Petroleum College”, the orchestra played several famous melodies. The wonderful performance was welcomed warmly by all the new students.
