On 11th September, a farewell party was held in Arts & Science Building by College of Arts for students who would make further studies in Russia. These students were the tenth group of Russian major and the first group of music major to study in Russia. Wang Shuting, the dean of College of Arts, Zhang Yongning, the secretary of party committee, Sun Daman, the vice dean, Jin Yujie, the deputy director of the Academic Administration of the university, and Liu Zhaoli from the office of International Cooperation and Exchange and the Hong Kong, Macao and Tai Wan Office, were present at the meeting. Wang Shuting, stressed that “students of University of Petroleum China (UPC) should always remember you are Chinese wherever you are.” Zhang Yongning emphasized that what they would learn was not only the knowledge but also the culture. A much newer perspective was necessary to live overseas, and what the students had to consider, after returning, was to contribute to our nation. Jin Yujie and Liu Zhaoli stated that the ties between UPC and the Belgorod State National Research University have been stronger and stronger after a dozen years’ of development. Meanwhile, they also advised when abroad, the students should communicate more to improve their own attainments.
What’s more, advice about safety awareness was given by all present teachers. From the perspective of parents, Zhou Ruiping gave detailed advice to the would-be overseas students, saying “wherever you go, your mother will always be missing you”. The public security in Russia was not sound so that the overseas students should contact more with the local embassy, the home of students abroad. Wang Shuting, sharing his overseas experience, intimately gave some tips about living abroad to the students such as: how to avoid allergy and learn to adjust to the climate and food there. Liu Zhaoli said: “it is good to stay at home a year, and it is hard to go out an hour; take care of yourselves while travelling!”
This group of undergraduates would start their life in Russia soon.
